I'm not planning on severing myself from the service, it's just that I've been feeling pretty damn tired and have been pretty damn lazy to do it. I tend to get to my blog reading (and dropping) at approx. 10PM. Because of that, I usually don't go to bed till close to midnight. It's not all the web's fault, Family Guy is on at 11PM and I'll find myself watching it while online. I pretty much consider this "my online work" because, let's face it friends, dropping and reading can be a time consuming and tedious task. Last night, I got to thinking of my online work and was about to get started on it, until I flipped the channel and started watching this one movie called Shooter. I don't know what it is with me and snipers but I thought the movie was pretty bad ass. Nowhere near as good as Enemy at the Gates (one of the most bad ass sniper movies EVER) but nevertheless, a good flick. Then I noticed that our cat was outside and I had out there and get him. I spent a good 15 mins out in the cold trying to get our cat out of the neighbors yard. I wouldn't doubt it if that's why I'm feeling like crap today. I felt hot as hell this morning and I started coughing up all kinds of crap... I came in to work though, figuring it would calm down some... It has, but still, I'm not up to snuff right now. At least we're getting Thursday and Friday off. The kids are on spring break this week and we weren't able to get the whole week off, like we usually do, so we had to settle for 2 days. It would suck if we spent those 2 days sick... Later!

Here in India, Nokia is considered to remain very popular and one of the top most mobile phones selling company.
Before taking N96, I used to use Nokia N80. My previous phone was too bulky and the sliding part was bit harder but later on my friends advice I switched myself from Nokia N80 to Nokia N96.

I still don't understand why Gmail has no emoticon feature, still!! Gmail stands high among its peers in many ways. But Yahoo looks colorful for its set of emoticons and this particular feature grabs and retains many users. The more I thought of it, the more I wanted to search for any third party tools to power this feature into Gmail system.

I found an awesome tool to achieve this. A Greasemonkey script. Yes, as you would have guessed by now, it works only with Firefox. Never mind. Cheer up Firefox fans. One more reason to vote for our favorite browser!

I just bought a new Nokia phone and claimed that this new Nokia N 72 always hang. I was thinking whether I was using wallpaper on ma phone or memory card. Later I releazed that I was using ma memory card and stored the wallpaper image in the memory card. Then, I thought of moving the image to phone memory. Since then, my phone does not hang anymore.

So, the question is, why should one put wallpaper image into phone memory? Well, answer is when you put the image that you want to set as wallpaper into the memory card, the phone will try to retrieve the image from the memory card when each time you go to the front screen. This process takes time because the phone had to retrive the file from external storage (memory card). This will slow down your phone and will make it become hang.

So to avoid your NSeries from hang, you need to put the wallpaper image into the phone memory (internal storage). By doing so, your NSeries will load the image more faster and this will reduce the possibilities of the phone to become hang.

Lets start with 1) BLACK HACKERS first:
1) Jonathan James: James gained notoriety when he became the first juvenile to be sent to prison for hacking. He was sentenced at 16 years old. In an anonymous PBS interview, he professes, "I was just looking around, playing around. What was fun for me was a challenge to see what I could pull off."
James's major intrusions targeted high-profile organizations. He installed a backdoor into a Defense Threat Reduction Agency server. The DTRA is an agency of the Department of Defense charged with reducing the threat to the U.S. and its allies from nuclear, biological, chemical, conventional and special weapons. The backdoor he created enabled him to view sensitive emails and capture employee usernames and passwords.

James also cracked into NASA computers, stealing software worth approximately $1.7 million. According to the Department of Justice, "The software supported the International Space Station's physical environment, including control of the temperature and humidity within the living space." NASA was forced to shut down its computer systems, ultimately racking up a $41,000 cost. James explained that he downloaded the code to supplement his studies on C programming, but contended, "The code itself was crappy . . . certainly not worth $1.7 million like they claimed."
Given the extent of his intrusions, if James, also known as "c0mrade," had been an adult he likely would have served at least 10 years. Instead, he was banned from recreational computer use and was slated to serve a six-month sentence under house arrest with probation. However, he served six months in prison for violation of parole. Today, James asserts that he's learned his lesson and might start a computer security company.

2) Adrian Lamo: Lamo's claim to fame is his break-ins at major organizations like The New York Times and Microsoft. Dubbed the "homeless hacker," he used Internet connections at Kinko's, coffee shops and libraries to do his intrusions. In a profile article, "He Hacks by Day, Squats by Night," Lamo reflects, "I have a laptop in Pittsburgh, a change of clothes in D.C. It kind of redefines the term multi-jurisdictional."

Lamo's intrusions consisted mainly of penetration testing, in which he found flaws in security, exploited them and then informed companies of their shortcomings. His hits include Yahoo!, Bank of America, Citigroup and Cingular. When white hat hackers are hired by companies to do penetration testing, it's legal. What Lamo did is not.
When he broke into The New York Times' intranet, things got serious. He added himself to a list of experts and viewed personal information on contributors, including Social Security numbers. Lamo also hacked into The Times' LexisNexis account to research high-profile subject matter.
For his intrusion at The New York Times, Lamo was ordered to pay approximately $65,000 in restitution. He was also sentenced to six months of home confinement and two years of probation, which expired January 16, 2007. Lamo is currently working as an award-winning journalist and public speaker.

3) Kevin Mitnick: A self-proclaimed "hacker poster boy," Mitnick went through a highly publicized pursuit by authorities. His mischief was hyped by the media but his actual offenses may be less notable than his notoriety suggests. The Department of Justice describes him as "the most wanted computer criminal in United States history." His exploits were detailed in two movies: Freedom Downtime and Takedown.

Mitnick had a bit of hacking experience before committing the offenses that made him famous. He started out exploiting the Los Angeles bus punch card system to get free rides. Then, like Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, dabbled in phone phreaking. Although there were numerous offenses, Mitnick was ultimately convicted for breaking into the Digital Equipment Corporation's computer network and stealing software.
Mitnick's mischief got serious when he went on a two and a half year "coast-to-coast hacking spree." The CNN article, "Legendary computer hacker released from prison," explains that "he hacked into computers, stole corporate secrets, scrambled phone networks and broke into the national defense warning system." He then hacked into computer expert and fellow hacker Tsutomu Shimomura's home computer, which led to his undoing.
Today, Mitnick has been able to move past his role as a black hat hacker and become a productive member of society. He served five years, about 8 months of it in solitary confinement, and is now a computer security consultant, author and speaker.

4) Kevin Poulsen: Also known as Dark Dante, Poulsen gained recognition for his hack of LA radio's KIIS-FM phone lines, which earned him a brand new Porsche, among other items. Law enforcement dubbed him "the Hannibal Lecter of computer crime."
Authorities began to pursue Poulsen after he hacked into a federal investigation database. During this pursuit, he further drew the ire of the FBI by hacking into federal computers for wiretap information.

His hacking specialty, however, revolved around telephones. Poulsen's most famous hack, KIIS-FM, was accomplished by taking over all of the station's phone lines. In a related feat, Poulsen also "reactivated old Yellow Page escort telephone numbers for an acquaintance who then ran a virtual escort agency." Later, when his photo came up on the show Unsolved Mysteries, 1-800 phone lines for the program crashed. Ultimately, Poulsen was captured in a supermarket and served a sentence of five years.
Since serving time, Poulsen has worked as a journalist. He is now a senior editor for Wired News. His most prominent article details his work on identifying 744 sex offenders with MySpace profiles.

5) Robert Tappan Morris: Morris, son of former National Security Agency scientist Robert Morris, is known as the creator of the Morris Worm, the first computer worm to be unleashed on the Internet.

As a result of this crime, he was the first person prosecuted under the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
Morris wrote the code for the worm while he was a student at Cornell. He asserts that he intended to use it to see how large the Internet was. The worm, however, replicated itself excessively, slowing computers down so that they were no longer usable. It is not possible to know exactly how many computers were affected, but experts estimate an impact of 6,000 machines. He was sentenced to three years' probation, 400 hours of community service and a fined $10,500.
Morris is currently working as a tenured professor at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. He principally researches computer network architectures including distributed hash tables such as Chord and wireless mesh networks such as Roofnet.

OK now let me mention some of the top white hackers:

Hackers that use their skills for good are classified as "white hat." These white hats often work as certified "Ethical Hackers," hired by companies to test the integrity of their systems. Others, operate without company permission by bending but not breaking laws and in the process have created some really cool stuff. In this section we profile five white hat hackers and the technologies they have developed.
1) Stephen Wozniak: "Woz" is famous for being the "other Steve" of Apple. Wozniak, along with current Apple CEO Steve Jobs, co-founded Apple Computer. He has been awarded with the National Medal of Technology as well as honorary doctorates from Kettering University and Nova Southeastern University. Additionally, Woz was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in September 2000.
Woz got his start in hacking making blue boxes, devices that bypass telephone-switching mechanisms to make free long-distance calls. After reading an article about phone phreaking in Esquire, Wozniak called up his buddy Jobs. The pair did research on frequencies, then built and sold blue boxes to their classmates in college. Wozniak even used a blue box to call the Pope while pretending to be Henry Kissinger.

Wozniak dropped out of college and came up with the computer that eventually made him famous. Jobs had the bright idea to sell the computer as a fully assembled PC board. The Steves sold Wozniak's cherished scientific calculator and Jobs' VW van for capital and got to work assembling prototypes in Jobs' garage. Wozniak designed the hardware and most of the software. In the Letters section of Woz.org, he recalls doing "what Ed Roberts and Bill Gates and Paul Allen did and tons more, with no help." Wozniak and Jobs sold the first 100 of the Apple I to a local dealer for $666.66 each.
Woz no longer works full time for Apple, focusing primarily on philanthropy instead. Most notable is his function as fairy godfather to the Los Gatos, Calif. School District. "Wozniak 'adopted' the Los Gatos School District, providing students and teachers with hands-on teaching and donations of state-of-the-art technology equipment."
2) Tim Berners-Lee: Berners-Lee is famed as the inventor of the World Wide Web, the system that we use to access sites, documents and files on the Internet. He has received numerous recognitions, most notably the Millennium Technology Prize.
While a student at Oxford University, Berners-Lee was caught hacking access with a friend and subsequently banned from University computers. w3.org reports, "Whilst [at Oxford], he built his first computer with a soldering iron, TTL gates, an M6800 processor and an old television." Technological innovation seems to have run in his genes, as Berners-Lee's parents were mathematicians who worked on the Manchester Mark1, one of the earliest electronic computers.

While working with CERN, a European nuclear research organization, Berners-Lee created a hypertext prototype system that helped researchers share and update information easily. He later realized that hypertext could be joined with the Internet. Berners-Lee recounts how he put them together: "I just had to take the hypertext idea and connect it to the TCP and DNS ideas and – ta-da! – the World Wide Web."
Since his creation of the World Wide Web, Berners-Lee founded the World Wide Web Consortium at MIT. The W3C describes itself as "an international consortium where Member organizations, a full-time staff and the public work together to develop Web standards." Berners-Lee's World Wide Web idea, as well as standards from the W3C, is distributed freely with no patent or royalties due.
3) Linus Torvalds: Torvalds fathered Linux, the very popular Unix-based operating system. He calls himself "an engineer," and has said that his aspirations are simple, "I just want to have fun making the best damn operating system I can."

Torvalds got his start in computers with a Commodore VIC-20, an 8-bit home computer. He then moved on to a Sinclair QL. Wikipedia reports that he modified the Sinclair "extensively, especially its operating system." Specifically, Torvalds hacks included "an assembler and a text editor…as well as a few games."
Torvalds created the Linux kernel in 1991, using the Minix operating system as inspiration. He started with a task switcher in Intel 80386 assembly and a terminal driver. After that, he put out a call for others to contribute code, which they did. Currently, only about 2 percent of the current Linux kernel is written by Torvalds himself. The success of this public invitation to contribute code for Linux is touted as one of the most prominent examples of free/open source software.
Currently, Torvalds serves as the Linux ringleader, coordinating the code that volunteer programmers contribute to the kernel. He has had an asteroid named after him and received honorary doctorates from Stockholm University and University of Helsinki. He was also featured in Time Magazine's "60 Years of Heroes."
4) Richard Stallman: Stallman's fame derives from the GNU Project, which he founded to develop a free operating system. For this, he's known as the father of free software. His "Serious Bio" asserts, "Non-free software keeps users divided and helpless, forbidden to share it and unable to change it. A free operating system is essential for people to be able to use computers in freedom."

Stallman, who prefers to be called rms, got his start hacking at MIT. He worked as a "staff hacker" on the Emacs project and others. He was a critic of restricted computer access in the lab. When a password system was installed, Stallman broke it down, resetting passwords to null strings, then sent users messages informing them of the removal of the password system.
Stallman's crusade for free software started with a printer. At the MIT lab, he and other hackers were allowed to modify code on printers so that they sent convenient alert messages. However, a new printer came along – one that they were not allowed to modify. It was located away from the lab and the absence of the alerts presented an inconvenience. It was at this point that he was "convinced…of the ethical need to require free software."
With this inspiration, he began work on GNU. Stallman wrote an essay, "The GNU Project," in which he recalls choosing to work on an operating system because it's a foundation, "the crucial software to use a computer." At this time, the GNU/Linux version of the operating system uses the Linux kernel started by Torvalds. GNU is distributed under "copyleft," a method that employs copyright law to allow users to use, modify, copy and distribute the software.
Stallman's life continues to revolve around the promotion of free software. He works against movements like Digital Rights Management (or as he prefers, Digital Restrictions Management) through organizations like Free Software Foundation and League for Programming Freedom. He has received extensive recognition for his work, including awards, fellowships and four honorary doctorates.
5) Tsutomu Shimomura: Shimomura reached fame in an unfortunate manner: he was hacked by Kevin Mitnick. Following this personal attack, he made it his cause to help the FBI capture him.
Shimomura's work to catch Mitnick is commendable, but he is not without his own dark side. Author Bruce Sterling recalls: "He pulls out this AT&T cellphone, pulls it out of the shrinkwrap, finger-hacks it, and starts monitoring phone calls going up and down Capitol Hill while an FBI agent is standing at his shoulder, listening to him."

Shimomura out-hacked Mitnick to bring him down. Shortly after finding out about the intrusion, he rallied a team and got to work finding Mitnick. Using Mitnick's cell phone, they tracked him near Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The article, "SDSC Computer Experts Help FBI Capture Computer Terrorist" recounts how Shimomura pinpointed Mitnick's location. Armed with a technician from the phone company, Shimomura "used a cellular frequency direction-finding antenna hooked up to a laptop to narrow the search to an apartment complex." Mitnick was arrested shortly thereafter. Following the pursuit, Shimomura wrote a book about the incident with journalist John Markoff, which was later turned into a movie.

This secret is specially to them who share thier pc with thier families or friends... So here is a small security option for those people.. There are two ways to password protect a folder built into Windows XP (for other Windows flavors, there are some freeware/shareware programs out there).

1) If you have a log in password for your account, this can be used to protect folders from other users. Your hard drive must be formatted using NTFS (which it probably is unless you're dual booting with another operating system). Here's what to do...
Right-click the folder that you want to make private and choose "Properties" (or Alt+Double-click). Go to the "Sharing" tab and check the "Make this folder private" box.
Click Apply . If you do not have a password on your account, a box will pop up asking if you want to assign a password. This must be done if you want to make the folder private, so click Yes . You will need to use your password to log on to your computer from then on.
Type in a password then confirm it. Click the "Create Password" button then close the Password window.
Click OK in the Properties dialog box.
Now anyone else logged on to your computer can't access that file without knowing your password.
2) If the Folder is Zipped you can give it a unique password.
Just double-click the zipped folder. In the top menu select File then click "Add a Password".
Type a password into the Password box. Then again in the "Confirm Password" box.
Now, you are the only person who can access files in this folder. The folder can be opened allowing the files to be seen, but you are the only one who can access them.

iPhone is already the top mobile browser

It's been on the market for just six months, and already the iPhone (plus its Wi-Fi-only variant, the iPod Touch) is the most used mobile browser for Internet access in the U.S., according to Irish researcher StatCounter. At No. 2 is the Symbian OS used in Nokia's devices. Globally, the two positions are reversed. In either case, Windows Mobile -- in all its versions -- is just a blip.

As of March, the iPhone and iPod Touch account for 0.23 percent of U.S. Web traffic, while the business-friendly Symbian-based Nokia devices come in second place, though StatCounter did not provide their traffic percentage. Globally, Nokia comes in tops at 0.25 percent and the iPhone and iPod Touch second at 0.08 percent, despite its availability in just a few countries.

Another researcher, Net Applications, puts the iPhone/iPod Touch in top position with 0.19 percent of global Web traffic, versus 0.06 percent for all Windows Mobile devices. (Net Applications doesn't count the Nokia platform traffic.) When looking at browser traffic, Net Applications rolls together the iPhone's Safari and the desktop version, not as separate apps. Microsoft's Pocket Internet Explorer browser claims 0.03 percent, the Palm Treo's Blazer browser is at 0.02 percent, and the multiple-device Opera Mini grabs 0.04 percent.

The key to the iPhone's success is the fact that it provides a unified, full browser experience, said Neil McDonald, a Gartner analyst. By comparison, Windows Mobile is a fractured platform, with separate PDA and smartphone versions, as well as a version of the browser that doesn't support full HTML.

Imagine you're in a place where you can only connect to a 56k connection (or worse), but you really need to check out some stuff on the Internet... Well, one option is to use Opera Mini on your mobile phone, but it might be a hassle since text input can be a pain (and you're in a hurry), so what do you do?

Well, you tweak and use Opera Mini on your PC (of course)! You'll get proper text input, no more scrolling (due to fullscreen display) and still way less traffic (and thus faster page loading) than with a "normal" browser. Sweet!

Where to download:

Download and install the software you need (you can pick the snapshot as well).
Unzip the archive (to a place you remember) on your PC.
Download the Opera Mini .jar and .jad files.

How to make it work:

Double-click on "microemulator.jar" to run it. If that doesn't work you'll have to type "java -jar microemulator.jar" in a console (please note you need to have JRE installed for this to work).
Go to "Options -> Select device", click "Add...", navigate to "microemulator/devices" and select "microemu-device-resizable.jar".
Select the "Resizable device" profile you added and click on "Set as default".
Click on the "Resize" button in the lower right corner to choose prefered size.
Go to "File -> Open JAD" and choose the Opera Mini .jad you previously downloaded.
"Opera Mini" will now appear in the list of applications you can start.
Click "Start" to launch it.

Blu-ray prices going up, not down

Now that HD DVD's on the way out, it looks like Blu-ray manufacturers and retailers are feeling free to jack up prices. Meanwhile, prices for HD DVD decks and combo players are plummeting.The editors of TG Daily (by way of Audioholics) have been scouring the Web for Blu-ray and HD DVD player prices, and can you guess what they found? That's right: Since Toshiba gave up on HD DVD in mid-February, Blu-ray prices—which had been showing some modest declines back in December—have spiked. Take, for example, Sony's entry-level BDP-S300, a Blu-ray player that doesn't even have the latest Blu-ray profile (it's stuck with the bare-bones 1.0 spec). Back in December, the S300 (which originally sold for a whopping $600) actually fell to about $270 on Amazon; now, according to TG Daily, average prices for the player have swelled to $403. Then there's Samsung's BD-P1400, one of the first Blu-ray players to sink below $400. On January 10, the P1400 skimmed the $300 mark, according to TG Daily; now it's back up to an average price of $374.Meanwhile, prices for HD DVD decks have, unsurprisingly, been tumbling. Toshiba's mid-range, 1080p-capable HD-A30, which originally sold for $400, began the year with an average price of $254; now, it's selling for a mere $134, TG Daily reports. The entry-level HD-A3 1080i player can be had for a song: just $101, on average.Also, combo Blu-ray/HD DVD players have been showing steep price drops. As I noted in a previous post, the Samsung BD-UP5000, originally listed north of $1,000, is on sale for about $500, while TG Daily has the average price for the LG BH200 pegged at $699, down from its original $999.

Parallels Server enables companies to run "virtualized" operating system and server environments, helping IT departments to leverage legacy software while being able to standardize the hardware that runs it. It's a "bare metal" system that uses Parallels' Hypervisor technology to set up and run different operating systems and software.

Improvements to the Beta 3 release include an integrated toolset that includes Parallels Tools, Parallels Image Tools and Parallels Transporter (which lets users migrate virtual environments). Nokia Promises 'Tube' to Compete with Apple's iPhone

Nokia is working on what some observers are calling an iPhone killer. Code-named "Tube," Nokia discussed the device at the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference this week. The new touchscreen handset could debut by the end of the year.

"Nokia is quick to tell you it is already well versed in using touchscreens and creating touchscreen devices," Greengart said. "In fact, its Internet tablet even has a full Internet browser with Flash support."

Java Built In
Apple has its strengths, as does Nokia. For example, the iPhone has a two-megapixel camera that takes clear shots but does not have a flash, Gartenberg said. Nokia has devices that offer a five-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and relatively low shutter lags, auto focus and a flash.

Then again, the experience of using an iPhone versus a Nokia N95 is quite different because the iPhone has a large, high-resolution touch screen. "The iPhone literally feels different than scrolling around things on Nokia's browser using five-way navigation control buttons," Gartenberg said. "But both present you the entire page the way it would look if was on an even larger screen."

The key for both companies is innovation. If Nokia, for example, merely takes the 12-button experience and moves it to a touchscreen, then the paradigm doesn't change much. Users want a different experience, Greengart insisted.

"The real challenge and the real benefit of using the touchscreen is that it gives you the ability to create a differentiated experience," Greengart said. "We are starting to see some stuff come out of Nokia's labs that is quite exciting in the realm of using touchscreens, accelerometers and sensors."

Sony's Blu-ray recently achieved a permanent victory over rival high-definition format HD DVD. With Blu-ray backed by almost every major Hollywood studio, Toshiba raised the white flag on HD DVD. That left thousands of consumers with a device that will soon become obsolete as the industry distributes movies on Blu-ray discs.

Amazon is offering consumers who purchased an HD-DVD player before Feb. 23 a little consolation, a $50 coupon good for anything Amazon sells. Feb. 23 is when Toshiba announced it would stop making HD-DVD players.

Priming the Pump
Amazon offered a promotional code for consumers to use during the checkout process. It's not an indefinite offer, though. The deal expires on April 9, 2009. There's one more catch -- purchases from third-party merchants on the site are not eligible.

The offer can't be used to pay for special-order titles, e-books or downloadable e-content, wireless service plans, gift certificates, gift wrap, taxes, or shipping and handling. The maximum credit for consumers who may have purchased multiple units is $500 for 10 players.

Hooking Up Your Stereo to Your PC or Laptop

If you're turning a computer into a music machine, why not just do the obvious: Hook it up to the stereo? If you want to make audiotapes of your MP3s (or even streaming audio concerts) for your car's tape deck, this is probably a good idea. Also, if your band wants to convert a demo tape into MP3 format for posting on the Web, you can reverse the hookup - that is, run the sound out from your stereo into the microphone jack of your computer.
If you just want to listen to music you find on the Web, you may find it easier to just invest in some high-end computer speakers. A basic computer can do the essential functions of your stereo:
Play compact discs.
Play high-quality sound through high-end computer speakers.

Stereo speakers are not magnetized in the same way as computer speakers. If you place your stereo speakers too close to your computer, they could damage your hard drive. Play it safe and keep at least a few feet of space between the two. Or, better yet, shell out some cash for a good set of computer speakers with a subwoofer.
The main reason most people seem to want to connect the two beasts is to crank their MP3s out of their stereo system. Just run the right-sized wires between the right places to turn your computer into a mighty combination MP3/audio CD player.
To connect your computer to your home stereo, follow these steps:
1. Turn down the volume on your stereo and sound card.
If you can't find your sound card's volume adjustment - which is either somewhere on the back of the card or through its software program - simply turn off your computer (after saving and closing any open files, of course).
2. Find the correct cable.
You need a shielded Y-adapter cable. This cable has a stereo 1/8-inch plug on one end and two RCA phono plugs on the other end. You can find the cable at Radio Shack. Other electronics stores and some computer stores carry the cord as well.

The package of a stereo Y-adapter cable often refers to it as "a male stereo 1/8-inch plug to two male RCA plugs."
The best sound card manufacturers throw the cord in for free; others make you head to Radio Shack. If your computer and stereo aren't very close together, pick up a 12-foot stereo cable. A 20-foot stereo cable provides even more room. If your computer and stereo are more than 20 feet away, ask the Radio Shack salesperson how to buy the right cable and plugs to make your own extension cable.
3. Plug the 1/8-inch stereo plug into your sound card's speaker jack.
Hopefully your sound card has all its jacks labeled so that you know which hole does what. If it doesn't, you have to open the sound card's manual. Then run the extension cord between your computer and your stereo system.

If you have carpet, push the cord into the crack between the carpet and the edge of the wall. Use the right tool for the job: A spoon handle works well. No carpet? One alternative is to buy a rug, but whatever you do, don't leave the cord laying across the floor.
4. Plug the cable's two RCA phono plugs into the stereo's Aux Input or Tape Input jacks.
Check the back of your stereo for some unused input jacks; you should see several pairs of stubby little metal heads. Use the Aux Input or the Tape Input jacks - whichever ones aren't being used.
One jack of the pair is probably red or labeled "Right" - push the cord's red plug into that jack. The other jack is probably black, white, or green - this jack is for your other plug, no matter what color it is.

Don't plug your sound card's output into your home stereo's Phono Input jack. Your stereo doesn't expect such a strong signal from that jack.
5. Turn on the stereo, and switch it to Aux Input or Tape Input.
Turn the stereo's input select switch to the jack that you've used, either Tape Input or Aux Input.
6. Play an MP3 file on the sound card, and adjust the volume.
Gradually turn up the volume on your stereo and sound card. If everything is hooked up right, the sound should start filling the room.
If the sound doesn't start filling the room, make sure that the stereo is turned to Aux Input or Tape Input - or whatever input jack you plugged the sound card into. If the stereo isn't turned to the correct input switch, your sound card won't come through.

Connect your iPod — Warning! if iTunes loads when you plug in your iPod, and is set to automatically sync your entire library (erasing your iPod), you MUST stop it — hit the little “X” in the upper right hand corner of the window.
Open your iPod — It should show up on “My Computer” as a “Mobile Device”; right click and choose “Explore”. Alternatively, go to the Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, and double-click your iPod.

Finding a good pair of earbuds for the iPhone is not easy. I've used several types of eabuds over the years, and finally settled on the Etymotic ER 6i, which I've used for the past year. The sound quality was good, but the three-flange eartips are too big, and not very comfortable. I guess most earbuds are never completely comfortable, but they are a lot more practical than say DJ-style headphones, when you're at the gym.
I got my hands on the new Klipsch Image earphones, and being that I have small ears, I absolutely loved the small earbud design. Klipsch touts them as the world's smallest and lightest in-ear headphones, and indeed they are. I like to think of them as the Supermodel of earphones, compared to all the other earbuds out there. They're sleek, thin, fashionable, and very sexy.

Computer spending slowing along with economy

People are still buying computers, but the number of those planning to do so has fallen to the lowest level it's been in over a year (at least). The economy seems to be hurting everyone: Both consumers and businesses are buying fewer computers than they have in months.

The news is part of research from ChangeWave, an investment and technology research group, and it shows the outlook for technology spending looking pretty grim for the foreseeable future. Even the number of those planning to purchase Apple computers, which have shown an incredible rise over the last three years as the Mac has seized market share, is slightly softening for the first time since 2005 (though Apple still outpaces the rest of the consumer buying market considerably and purchase plans remain near their record high).

What's behind the fall? It's easy to blame the economy, but one need look no further than ChangeWave's telling graph measuring satisfaction ratings from corporate computer users to figure out one big reason for what's happening. While Mac OS, Linux, and Windows XP all merit 40 percent-plus on the "very satisfied" scale, Microsoft's latest, Windows Vista, managed to merit just 8 percent of users saying they were very satisfied with the system. I don't find it a stretch to believe that corporate computer buyers, greatly disappointed with Vista, are simply waiting it out with XP and biding their time while Microsoft develops Windows 7. Makes sense to me.

Social network invites can be a plague

If you're like many people deeply wired into a Web 2.0 lifestyle, your inbox is a never-ending flow of invites to new social-networking services.

Day in and day out, it seems, there's a new one. Today it's Notch Up, yesterday it's Naymz. Last week it was Dopplr.

And that's not even counting the steady flow of requests to be someone's friend on LinkedIn, MySpace, Plaxo or Facebook.

For me, it's a constant annoyance. I know I probably should jump on the LinkedIn bandwagon, for example, yet I never have, and frankly, don't expect I ever will. I suppose it's possible that one day, long ago, I created an account. All I know is that every few days, someone I know--often a distant acquaintance--will ask me to be their friend on LinkedIn.

And of course, what follows some set number of days later is a stern automated message warning me that my offer to be that person's friend is going to expire. Darn!

For some people, though, the issue with the constant stream of invites is becoming more than just annoying.

"I'm suffering from sheer invite toxicity," wrote Heather Kelley, the Kraus visiting professor of art at Carnegie Mellon University, to an e-mail list I'm on. Microsoft producing series of Web show

Watch out, Hollywood. Here comes Microsoft.

At an event it called Digital Showcase, held Thursday in New York, the software giant told a group of ad execs that it is getting into the business of producing original Web shows for its wide range of Web platforms.

According to MediaWeek, Microsoft told the ad execs that the shows it is funding will be naturals for supporting online advertising.

The shows are slated to run on portals like MSN, Xbox Live, and MSNBC.com. Among the initial series are: 50 Greatest, which MediaWeek said is "a spoof of the multiple pop culture list shows common to VH1 and other cable networks"; and In Need of Repair, "a male-aimed home improvement series featuring a pair of sophomoric, mostly inept hosts."

This is interesting because there's been considerable interest lately in whether Internet shows can replace or at least emerge alongside traditional television series. The interest was particularly intense during the Hollywood writer's strike because studios were desperate for original programming created outside the auspices of the Writer's Guild.

Whether a company like Microsoft can be among the first to succeed with Web-only series is a question that I'm sure a lot of people would like to know the answer to. I certainly wouldn't put it past them, since they can throw a lot of resources at the problem.

The bigger question may be whether they choose good scripts. As we all know, the only way to succeed with any kind of story telling is to tell good stories.

And, I must say, I'm not too optimistic at the prospect of watching inept, sophomoric guys trying to fix things. Then again, King of the Hill has been a huge hit for Fox. So you never know. If the writing's good, anything is possible.

On the other hand, since one of the portals in question is Xbox Live and one of the shows is called In Need of Repair, I can see a few people thinking that the show might be about the well-publicized quality control problems of Microsoft's Xbox video game consoles.

Canon Pixma iP5200R Inkjet Printer

There are several features of the Pixma iP5200R which make it an interesting colour printer for general office or photo printing needs. Although it has only four ink colours, it comes as standard with both dye-based and pigmented black inks, so when you’re printing black text you get the increased permanence of black pigments and when printing colour graphics or photos, you get extra depth from dye-based black.

The printer can also handle duplex (double-sided) printing as standard and you can print on coated CDs or DVDs, using the separate disc-holder, supplied with the machine.

As a final incentive, the ‘R’ suffix implies wireless networking (no, we’re not sure why ‘R’ for ‘Wi-Fi’, either). This printer can be connected via USB 2.0, network cable or via a Wi-Fi link to one or more printers, all of which can address the printer independently.

Description

This is a substantial machine for an ink-jet printer and uses a solid-looking, silver-coloured, wraparound top cover to add to this apparent weight. The front cover folds down to reveal a telescopic output tray which slides out to take paper fed from an angled tray at the rear. This folds down onto the top surface of the iP5200R, out of the way, when the printer’s not in use. At the base of the printer is a secondary tray, which be used for letter heads, photo paper or other special media.

We’re not finished yet, though, as a secondary front panel above the paper exit rollers folds down to take a CD or DVD carrier, so you can print on coated discs. The carrier supports both 120mm and 63mm discs.

To the right of the output tray in the front panel are two buttons to control paper feed and input from paper tray or disc carrier, indicator lights and a PictBridge socket for connecting digital cameras. Two further indicators in the rim of the case show power and fault conditions. At the rear are a mains socket and separate connections for a USB 2 link and an Ethernet cable

Installation and software

Setting the Pixma iP5200R up physically and in software terms is a little more complicated than usual, because of the extra facilities offered by the printer. Having clipped the head into place, you clip each of the five ink tanks into the head carrier and small red leds show when the tanks are properly inserted.

You can install the software drivers for a USB connection or for a network one and once you have installed the printer to one machine, it’s easy to add the drivers to extra machines on either type of network.

There’s a good range of Canon-originated software supplied with the iP5200R for printing photos, printing from the Web and printing on CDs/DVDs.

Access Blocked Site - Using Calculator !!

This unique Mathematics based trick will probably work when websites are blocked in your institution or corporate network based on the host name or their IP address.The trick is to convert the human readable website address that's blocked (like Link:) into an IP address (208.75.184. 160) and again translate this value to a decimal address which is probably not blocked by the website filters.

Here's a step by step guide to render Link:. com to a decimal address:How to Access Restricted Websites
1) get its IP address (216.178.39. 74), by pinging the name (if you have a direct internet connection) or if you only have access via a web proxy then find it out by using a networking website like network-tools. com.

2) start your PC's calculator, and change it to scientific mode (using the "View" menu)

3) enter each of the four IP octets, one by one, converting them to binary (enter number and click on the "Bin" radio button)
Thus 216.178.39.74 becomes
216 = 11011000
178 = 10110010
39 = 00100111
74 = 0100101

Notice how any binary numbers less than 8 digits long have had leading zeroes added to pad them out. Reassembled into IP address order, you get 11011000.10110010. 00100111. 010010104)
Remove the dots, so you get one huge line of binary, thus: 1101100010110010001 00111010010105) Copy this binary string.........

6) Go to your scientific calculator, and hit the "Bin" button FIRST (as you are about to enter binary), THEN paste in the binary string.

Wuntoo adds: I used to be in a place that had websense, where both website names and their corresponding IP addresses were blocked. However was able to get limited access by converting the IP address to decimal, which websense (at the time) did not know about.

This might have changed since, or if your school runs an old version it might still work. Note that if you surf away from the page you might hit websense blocks again unless you manually reconstruct the next address you want to get to.

you can copy any webpages or active screen without downloading it by following steps given below.This trick will only take place if you have microsoft Office onenote 2007.

(1) first open the webpage you want to copy.
(2) press start menu button+ s.
(3) the screen will become quite white and you will see a notice from microsoft one note 2007. (don't worry if notice is not being seen)
(4)you will see a square in place of your pointer.
(5)Drag the pointer on screen area you want to copy.
(6)After doing this you will see the selected area clear.
(7)Then leave the pointer free you will see a notice again.
(8)The selected screen will be seen in Microsoft Office onenote 2007.
(9)click on file menu and click 'SAVE AS..'.
(10)you can save that file in desired location.
(11)do not forget to change that 'save as type'
(12)beside 'Save as type' you will see 'OneNote sections' .
(13)change it to 'Single File web page' and click on 'save' button.
(14)now you will able to see the webpage in your browser without net.

Note:- you will not be able to do this if microsoft one not is opened or minimized.

14.On The Left Hand Expand Computer Management>Select Services And Applications>Services

15.On The Right Hand Scroll down And Right Click At "Telnet"And Select Restart Option.
